This is yet another of my political ideas, but i think it could really do some good in the world.

Above is a map, the countries in blue are the countries that should be members of this group. It may seem like a random selection but all these countries either enjoy or are striving for good relations and many are already in various unions with each other, such as NATO or the British Commonwealth. This could be seen as a great strengthening of those ties.

This is not some EU style all-but-merger, this is simpler than that.

The points and functions of the Great Partnership are as follows:

Trade agreements - Simple right? Increasing the prosperity 

Mutual protection pact - This differs from a full blown alliance because members would have zero obligations until a member state is attacked. This is good because it blocks the nations from being pressured to gang up on other nations militarily, but would greatly discourage any other nation from attacking a member. In all seriousness, i doubt the rest of the world could take on this union.

Breaking down of barriers - Although each nation will retain 100% soverignity, many border controls could be relaxed, making things far easier for travellers, or even migrants.

Economic and social co-operation - Again; no desicions would be made by any sort of central government, but greater co-operation could only help the development of all nations involved.

So come on world! You know it’s a good idea!
